ProfileAssociate General Counsel Responsibilities: The candidate will prepare and oversee regulatory compliance matters for global business operations and services and work directly with regulators in many jurisdictions for knowledge management about regulatory environments that support the company’s business objectives. Provides strategic advice and guidance on implementing education licensing, employment, payments scheme regulations, working closely with the international, platform and product, finance, marketing and support teams. Draft and negotiate transactional and partnership agreements with respect to the services organization of company including around vendor services agreements, intellectual property, data, marketing and growth operations. Draft and manage internal policies around user interactions with firm's community and platform including platform behaviors, community, privacy, data security and other user facing issues and support services teams globally. Oversees the regulatory aspects of company employment and community resources processes globally. Support of litigation process matters around the world as needed. Other legal department transactional, corporate, and project support as needed.
Qualification and Experience
Requirements: The candidate should have J.D. from accredited law school and admitted to California bar. At least 10 years of legal experience in-house at a technology company or government regulatory experience either at agency or law firm. A second language desirable (Chinese, Portugese, German or Spanish a plus). Outstanding writing, research, negotiating, and interpersonal skills with attention to detail and nuance. Strong verbal advocacy and presentation skills. Proven ability to work independently and cross-functionally to achieve practical risk mitigation results for the business. An understanding of the Ed tech and Internet services, employment law, payments, or areas of regulation of transactions on the Internet. Comfortable in fast-paced, high growth, challenging and ever changing environment. Travel as needed. Handle emerging operational, regulatory and administrative challenges independently. Stay on top of developments in the field of education, advertising payments and employment law and serve as in-house source of information for stakeholders. Develop and implement risk management policies and escalations and controls procedures consistent with company vision and global regulatory requirements as well as tracking programs globally to consistently manage. Work closely with cross-company business team members to complete applications for appropriate licenses from regulatory authorities, establishing regulatory game plan and effectively leading and monitoring implementation. Develop relationships with a range of stakeholders, including internal staff, external counsel, and regulators. Work with the communications and support services team to formulate policies and escalations and internal messages and external press releases.
