ProfileSummer 2018 Legal Internship The candidate will work on Practice Areas: LGBTQ Issues - Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender & HIV Project. The Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender and HIV Project of the ACLU’s National Office in New York City seek legal interns for the Summer of 2018. The ACLU provides a $5,000 stipend to law student summer interns who work full-time at the ACLU for 10 weeks. Legal interns will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience by working alongside the LGBT and HIV Project team. Interns will gain experience by: Conducting factual and legal research related to ongoing litigation. Researching prospects for new litigation, including both factual and legal claims. Assistance in drafting of pleadings, briefs and other litigation documents. Researching and drafting materials for public education. The legal internship is open to all law students who will have completed their first year of law school before the internship commences. Should have excellent research, writing, analytical and communication skills. The ability to work with a wide range of people is needed. Familiarity with civil rights and civil liberties issues affecting LGBT people and those living with HIV/AIDS is desirable; commitment to these issues is essential.
