Corporate Counsels The candidates role will support all aspects of company’s original movies business, including film acquisitions; rights options and chain of title review; writer, producer and director agreements; production services agreements; talent agreements; clearances and content review. This position will work closely with company Studios’ movie business teams including creative development, business affairs, production, marketing and publicity. Responsibilities include: Structuring, drafting and negotiating a wide range of complicated agreements such as film acquisition, rights option, writer, producer, director, talent, production services and co-production agreements; Evaluating rights issues, confirming chain of title and advising on guild matters; Analyzing and interpreting contracts and providing thoughtful legal advice to clients on potential risks and issues in a wide range of legal areas, including intellectual property, digital media and regulatory compliance. Will be responsible for all legal matters related to production legal affairs for company’s theatrical features. The role will oversee production counsel and manage the day-to-day production legal needs for our feature films. This attorney will partner with company’s creative and production teams, both internally and externally, in addition to directly engaging with talent and directors. Draft and negotiate a wide range of production-service and above the line agreements. Structure productions to maximize production incentives, vet scripts and clear content. Advise on day-to-day production issues including music, clearance, S&P and first amendment review. Analyze and interpret contracts and provide thoughtful legal advice on legal issues including intellectual property, guild issues and content regulations.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and membership in good standing in at least one state Bar. Must have 1+ year of experience with either movies development or movies production legal affairs. Should have 4+ years of legal experience (with at least 2 years at a law firm) as a transactional attorney. In-house experience is a plus. Ability to demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations is preferred. Excellent organizational skills; ability to manage multiple projects at once, follow through and meet deadlines is preferred.
