Assistant General Counsel (Intellectual Property) The candidate will represents the USCCB and provides legal advice on a wide range of legal matters of interest to the Church, with a principal focus on intellectual property (including copyright, trademark, and related transactional matters), certain telecommunications matters, and litigation, including e-discovery and records retention and management. Has primary responsibility for providing legal advice to USCCB offices, and secondarily to member-bishops directly or through their diocesan attorneys, in the areas of practice described above. Serves as principal OGC liaison and legal advisor to Committee on Communications. Contributes to the Bishops’ strategic plan for the Conference. Demonstrates willingness and ability to understand, respect, and contribute to the USCCB mission and to fulfill job duties following its Catholic identity. J.D degree are required. Admission to state or DC bar (must qualify for, and successfully obtain, admission to DC bar at the earliest opportunity if not already admitted to DC bar), Knowledge of Catholic Church theology, structure, and hierarchy. Demonstrated level of skills and scholarship in assigned areas of practice. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Working knowledge of technical aspects of office life, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, e-mail, Internet, etc. 5 years of practice in areas described are required.
