Assistant City Attorney
The candidate will be assisting the City Attorney in providing legal services to the City. May supervise administrative staff as assigned. Work is performed under the direction of the City Attorney and is reviewed through conferences, inspection of documents, and evaluation of results obtained. Provide legal advice to City officials, department heads, and staff on an informal basis and in response to formal requests for legal services. Drafts contracts, briefs, resolutions, ordinances, and other legal documents. Litigates on behalf of the City in court and administrative proceedings in all areas of municipal law, including matters pertaining to code and law enforcement. Locates, reviews, and advises appropriate staff of judicial decisions for applicability to pending
cases or actions. May be required to travel for conferences and continuing legal education courses. Undergraduate Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree and degree of Juris Doctor from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association. Must be a member of the Florida Bar. 3 years’ experience practicing law is required. Experience in areas relevant to municipal law is preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to multitask accurately and efficiently are essential.
