Legal Secretary I The candidate will provide legal secretarial support to one litigating attorney and support staff in the Criminal Division, Fraud and Special Prosecutions Section. Should have 2+ years of experience as an Administrative Assistant, 1+ years of experience as a Legal Secretary OR completion of post high school legal secretary training and criminal law experience preferred. Knowledge needed: Knowledge of criminal prosecution procedures and protocol. Understanding of the attorney/client relationship including the need for confidentiality and discretion. Knowledge of technical legal terms. Knowledge of the sequence of legal actions in prosecutions sufficient to answer detailed inquiries from judicial staff, law enforcement, counsel or the public with accuracy. Substantial working knowledge of various computer programs. Skills needed: Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in composing correspondence and legal documents. Grammar, punctuation, spelling, basic editing, formats of a wide variety of legal documents. Skill in docketing and monitoring legal deadlines. Skill in transcribing and word processing. Abilities needed: Must be able to use tact and diplomacy in dealing with other agency employees and high-level public officials. Ability to be self-initiated, pro-active problem solver with the ability to multi-task while maintaining attention to detail. Ability to create word processing transcription from compact disk (CD). Ability to prioritize and plan large scale projects and to be well organized and analytical. Ability to use various types of equipment, computer and software. Ability to understand the attorney/client relationship including the need for confidentiality and discretion. Ability to form and maintain cordial working relationships with all level of staff and supervisors/AGO leadership.
