Community Oversight Board Legal Advisor
The candidate provides legal work and counsel to the Community Oversight Board staff and the Board, as required. Reviews proposed administrative action for legality. Attends meetings concerning legal matters. Reviews legal documents. Gives oral or written opinions on a variety of legal issues. Performs legal research. Prepares or directs preparation of reports. Must be Doctor of Jurisprudence and 3+ years of professional legal experience. Should have license to practice Law in the State of Tennessee or permitted to practice law pursuant to applicable rules of the Tennessee Supreme Court. Knowledge and/or experience with law enforcement agency misconduct (such as officer-involved shootings and in-custody deaths), investigations involving a large number of complainants, witnesses or officers, high-profile investigations, and those involving multiple law enforcement agencies or significant policy issues is preferred. Knowledge of legal principles and their application is a plus. Knowledge of administrative and constitutional law is desired. Knowledge of rules of evidence is a plus.
