Part-time Criminal Justice Instructor
The candidate will be responsible for teaching classes in Criminal Justice and Corrections, and other classes as the curriculum changes to meet the needs of students and the college. Will facilitate learning and initiate and participate in efforts to consistently improve student success. Work to create a supportive, student-centered learning environment both in the classroom and outside of it, particularly by being responsive to students needs. Coordinate and integrate efforts for individual students with the support activities and professionals in Student Services. Mentor or appropriately refer students seeking career and academic advice. Respond to student needs within the scope of his/her responsibilities by maintaining required office hours and communicating with students by making appropriate use of telephone, email, fax and mail. Take a pro-active role in the planning and development of instruction to be delivered in both face to face and/or classroom/laboratory presentations and through technology delivered formats based on students’ and institutional needs and subject matter requirements. Follow appropriate standard instructional design practices in course preparation, including creation of timely and current syllabi, development of learning activities and creation off examinations and other assessment mechanisms. Provide learning activities that meet course objectives and the needs of diverse student populations. Use a variety of measures to implement programs to assess student performance and makes appropriate changes, in content and methods, based upon results in conjunction with departmental and College procedures. Support and implement an appropriate use of technology in the curriculum. Infuse diversity, local, community, global and environmental awareness into the curriculum as applicable. Maintain accurate records of student progress and adheres to college, State, and Federal deadlines for submitting reports and records related to student learning and student outcomes. Maintain confidentiality of student records according to the guidelines established under FERPA.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice, Criminal Justice Administration, Law Enforcement, or closely related from a regionally accredited institution. Faculty teaching Legal Issues in Corrections, Criminal Law and Procedure, Court Testimony and Documentation, Computer Crime and Cyber Law, or any other law-related courses must have earned a Juris Doctorate degree. Should have 3+ years of full-time equivalent (minimum 6240 hours) of related work experience in criminal justice or corrections. Understanding of and commitment to community college teaching, mission and philosophy desired. Teaching experience in a higher education setting preferred. Experience utilizing technology to enhance teaching (i.e., online/digital resources and course management software) preferred.
