Patent Agent The candidate will draft and globally prosecute patent applications in chemicals and materials, particularly in organic chemistry, synthetic chemistry, and medicinal chemistry; Coordinate and correspondence with foreign law firms and associates to file foreign patent applications; Coordinate and correspondence with clients and investors for processing and legalization of formal documents for filing in foreign patent offices; Review country requirements and obtain Foreign Filing License where needed; Maintain client portfolio and provide client with estimates of costs for future filings and maintenance; Assist in the Firm's standardized procedures to enhance malpractice prevention; Conduct preliminary filings with the USPTO for new applications and renewals; Prepare and file state applications and renewals; Prepare and send notices to clients regarding upcoming deadlines; Correspond with foreign associates regarding filings, deadlines and billings; Anticipate attorney of client needs for specific projects; Delegate effectively and as appropriate with Paralegals or Legal Administrative Assistants.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have masters, higher degree, or equivalent in Chemistry, Biology, or related fields; Must have excellent academic credentials and excellent research, writing, analytical, and communication skills are required; Must have registration to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, or ability to qualify; Domestic and international prosecution experience is preferred; Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel. PowerPoint experience is preferred; Must have ability to work well under pressure, multi-task efficiently and be an independent thinker; Must have strong verbal and written communication skills; must be self-motivated with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; must be highly professional with a strong customer service orientation, commitment to meeting deadlines, and ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
