Petitions Examiner Duties : Review petitions filed within the timeframe established in agency rule and determine whether the petitioner has sufficient stake in the outcome of the proceeding. Conduct thorough research and analysis of retirement laws and statutes as they pertain to the issue at hand and will determine the outcome of the petition and issue a written decision, citing the facts and sources of law used to make decision for possible review at appeal. Additionally, provide legal analysis for internal team members. Review legal documents, when requested, for compliance with laws, and advise on issues related to disability applications, beneficiary determinations, survivorship, power of attorney, divorce decrees, guardianship, trust and estate documents, etc.
Qualification and Experience
Qualification : Should preferably have : A Bachelor's degree in Business or Public Administration, or closely allied field (a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and membership in good standing with the Washington State Bar Association is highly desired); At least 3+ years of experience in the adjudicative proceedings provisions of the Administrative Procedure Act; Understanding of principles of administrative law and procedure; Experience with public pension rules and laws; Demonstrated ability to produce clear and legally supported written decisions.
