Assistant United States Attorney The candidate will work as part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative to provide additional resources towards combating violent crime in the Southern District of Illinois. Position will include collaboration with state and federal partners, investigation and prosecution of gang cases, working with the violent crime task force to implement the district's violent crime reduction plan, and prosecuting violent offenders and drug trafficking offenses related to violent crime. Responsible for all phases of criminal prosecution to enforce federal laws, including providing guidance to law enforcement officers, initiating criminal charges, conducting grand jury proceedings and felony trials, and handling appeals. Must have a J.D. degree, be an active member of the Bar (any US jurisdiction), and have 1+ year of post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience. Admission to the Illinois Bar is preferred. Criminal prosecution experience is also preferred. Should have a strong background in criminal prosecution for a vacancy in the Violent Crimes unit of Criminal Division. Will be expected to do own legal research and writing and be substantially self-sufficient in preparing day-to-day correspondence and pleadings. Application Deadline: July 24, 2018.
