ProfileAssistant General Counsel I Duties: Independently, with minimal guidance, research, analyze, and advise and voting members regarding complex legal and policy issues impacting, or potentially impacting, voting member operations, including state electric cooperative act, corporate governance, intellectual property, tort, easement, electronic commerce, privacy, and other legal issues; Be a subject matter expert on one or more complex legal issues impacting and voting members, and continue to maintain and expand that expertise; as new complex legal issues arise for which there is no internal expertise, independently develop subject matter expertise regarding the issues and act as a resource for employees and members; Independently, with minimal guidance, monitor, participate in, and educate and voting members regarding legal proceedings impacting, or potentially impacting, voting member operations, primarily through Legal Reporting Service, Legal Seminars, and conferences, and the Electric Cooperative Bar Association Discussion List; Independently, with minimal guidance, research, analyze, and advise and owned and affiliated entities regarding legal issues impacting, or potentially impacting, their operations, including contracts, intellectual property, corporate governance, tort, litigation, and other legal issues; Support other Office of General Counsel attorneys in providing legal advice and services, voting members, and owned and affiliated entities; Engage and manage outside legal counsel where specific legal expertise is needed to advise on legal and policy issues impacting, or potentially impacting, or voting members, and independently act as a resource for employees and members regarding the issues. Responsible for the proper security and disposal of any confidential information that he or she may possess in the course of performing this position’s job duties, in accordance with Personnel and Administrative Policy and HIPAA Privacy and Security Policies and Procedures Manuals.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: JD Degree. 2-4 years of experience with electric cooperative or similar legal issues. Strong legal research, analytical, and writing skills. Strong communication and public speaking skills. Ability and willingness to travel. Strong interpersonal skills for working with board of directors and senior management. Strong organizational and project management skills.
