Litigation - International Arbitration

Staff Attorney The candidate will work closely with the Union staff and report directly to the General Counsel on a wide array of legal matters impacting the Union and the members. Some will fall in the realm of traditional labor law and may include arbitrating disputes under collective bargaining agreements, engaging in impasse procedures under CA’s Meyers-Milias-Brown Act, and contract bargaining. Other legal work may require significant agility and creativity in addressing less traditional forms of organizing and representation. Work may also include day-to-day advising Union staff on any number of matters relating to the operation of the Union and representation of the members, campaign finance and reporting law, policy and legislative review and assessment and possible involvement in state or federal litigation matters. Legal research, analysis and writing. Direct representational work (such as arbitrations, collective bargaining, trainings). Assisting and advising Union staff on membership issues. Any other duties as assigned.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Must hold a JD Degree. Must be admitted to the California Bar. 1-4 years of legal work post-law school graduation. Experience working with labor unions, arbitrations, and direct member or client contact are all highly preferred. Highly organized, strong writing and research skill. Solid interpersonal skills among diverse populations. Ability to work independently, manage time and an assortment of assignments. Ability to consistently exercise good judgement and demonstrate the Union’s Core Values: Leadership, Compassion, Empowerment, Accountability, Transparency and Excellence. Fluency in any language in addition to English is highly favorable, particularly: Spanish, Armenian, Russian, Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean, and Vietnamese.
