Senior Paralegal (labor Employment & Civil Rights)
The candidate work for division/Section: Labor, Employment, and Civil Rights. Responsibilities include: Creating physical files and maintaining case files for the duration of an active file. Performing pretrial preparation such as trial notebooks, arranging exhibit preparation, subpoenas, scheduling court reporters and videographers. Drafting documents such as pleadings, discovery, contracts, correspondence, ordinances, resolutions, and requests for council action. Electronic filing of pleadings and court documents. Preparation of discovery responses and document gathering. Summarizing records and reports such as depositions, medical records, internal documents, and incoming discovery. Assisting attorneys with depositions and with court hearings, coordinating witnesses, and performing general duties as assigned. Maintaining attorney calendars and schedules; working with court staff to obtain hearing dates and trial schedules. Performing legal research, coordinating and scheduling court appearances, trials, depositions and meetings. Coordinating unemployment compensation hearings, drafting responses to unemployment claims.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate requires a high school diploma or a GED certificate and a certificate in paralegal or legal assistant studies. An associate's degree may be substituted for the above certification requirement. Above average academic performance is preferred. Must have 5 years of experience in the area of employment law and litigation support. Experience and knowledge of litigation is required; experience and knowledge in labor and employment is preferred but not required. Should have 5 years of experience as a paralegal at a comparable professional organization, law firm, or corporate legal office are required. An additional 2 years of paralegal experience may be substituted for the certificate in paralegal or legal assistant studies. Should preferably have Knowledge of labor and employment law. Knowledge of court procedures in Harris County, in both State and Federal court is required. Must have excellent skill in oral and written communication. Proficiency with Word, Outlook, Excel, and the use of technology in legal practice is required.
