Houston office of a BCG Attorney Search Top Ranked Law Firm seeks patent agent/patent technical specialist preferably with 2-3 years of patent prosecution experience. The candidate will work with the chemical and biotechnology patent prosecution team and the job responsibilities will involve U.S. and foreign patent prosecution practice, including preparation and filing of patent applications, office action responses, and development of patentability search reports. Will also provide opportunities to assist on freedom-to-operate, patentability, and inventorship opinions, to work on post-issuance practice projects, and to provide litigation support. Be involved in telephonic, e-mail and in-person meetings with many prestigious clients which include international pharmaceutical companies, mid-size biotechnology companies, emerging companies and major research institutions. Other responsibilities include reviewing invention disclosures and participating in discussions with inventors to understand their technologies and innovations; searching literature and patent databases to determine the patentability of inventions; drafting written assessments of the prospects of obtaining patent protection; writing patent applications; preparing responses to communications from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office; developing arguments for patentability to Patent Office Examiners; and reviewing patents as part of the IP due diligence for a potential acquisition or merger. Should have a Ph.D. in one of the aforementioned fields (such as cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, and the like). Post-doctoral experience is a plus.
