Employee Benefits Attorney
The candidate will support our sales/service team to help clients understand changes in benefit laws, implications to their benefit plans, and how to take the necessary steps to be in compliance; Conduct compliance reviews for clients; create a compliance gap analysis that outlines compliance considerations and craft suggestions for becoming more compliant; Guide internal teams in addressing and resolving complex compliance issues for clients, including resolution of Form 5500 filing errors, compliance with ACA reporting requirements, and mergers and acquisitions support. Facilitate client requests and document management in the event of an audit of the client's health and welfare plans. Will collaborate with internal partners to develop tools and resources to facilitate compliance with health and welfare plan legal obligations. Serve as the subject matter expert for compliance projects, for both external and internal purposes. Will uncover opportunity for different service offerings based on the client’s needs and create potential solutions. Have a deep knowledge of the regulatory processes and track employee benefit plan legislation. Create and deliver presentations through Gallagher and partnering organizations to educate the market on the legal aspects of health and welfare benefits plans. Will contribute to written compliance resources, including white papers, FAQs, and other resources for internal and external education. Assist regional leads in developing practical solutions for clients to comply with federal and state regulations impacting health and welfare plans.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have Bachelor's Degree and Juris Doctorate is strongly preferred. Should have 10+ years related professional experience. A working knowledge of state laws applying to health and welfare plans, such as ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, ACA, the Internal Revenue Code, and state benefit mandates. Currently licensed to practice law. Ability to travel as business demands. Should take a consultative approach and pride yourself on your ability to collaborate. Develop and maintain relationships with subject matter experts in employee benefits law. Seek to continuously improve skills and knowledge by attending educational conferences and events.
