Washington, D.C. office of our client seeks senior staff attorney with 4+ years of experience in litigation, particularly complex, multi-party litigation. The candidate supervises paralegals, temporary attorneys, and other office personnel depending on needs of cases and/or assignments. Works with clients, partners, and associates to develop an appropriate course of action for discovery. Explains overall discovery process and technical aspects of e-discovery to client and firm team members as needed. Utilizes e-discovery technology, such as analytics and predictive coding. Provides advice on the best use of technology. Designs and implements processes that incorporate artificial intelligence; provide oversight of external vendors engaged in artificial intelligence (AI) processes; evaluates validity of predictive coding models. Manages and oversees complex e-discovery issues such as massive data migration, de-duplication processes across multiple data sets, large-scale requests for a significant number of custodians with varying date ranges and search terms, and simultaneous responses to several parties with different production specifications. Assists with negotiations to modify e-discovery requests. Advises associates and senior lawyers on protocols for production of electronically stored information (ESI), including the use of artificial intelligence. Assists and advises in negotiations with regulatory agencies and opposing counsel and coordinate as necessary with client IT, co-counsel, and joint-defense counsel on plans for collection, review and production of documents and data. Advises associates, senior lawyers, and clients on project budgets and implements review processes to meet deadlines. Prepares and monitors matter specific discovery budgets. Assists in coordination of e-discovery resources across the Firm’s global offices and with vendors and co-counsel. Participates in matter specific e-discovery vendor selection and pricing negotiations with vendors. Oversees work product by vendors. Works with client to organize document collection and oversees processing of documents for review and production. Develops and enforces the use of discovery plans and protocols for the Discovery Litigation and Technology group. Oversees department attorneys, and coordinates efforts with the litigation technologists and paralegals as appropriate. Monitor the rate of productivity and quality of overall work product being produced. Understands substantive issues of the case and applicable privilege laws in order to review documents and oversees the privilege log production. Stays knowledgeable on the latest developments in e-discovery issues, vendors, processes, technology and court decisions regarding document production and retention issues. Participates in panel discussions at conferences and draft materials for presentation. Participates as requested on firm committees and as appropriate on vendor advisory boards and also assists the Firm’s attorneys as requested. Should have experience devising and implementing e-discovery strategies. Vendor experience is desirable. Must be a member of the Bar of the District of Columbia. Deep and broad technical knowledge of current e-discovery processes, tools, and technologies (Relativity, Brainspace, NexLP) is essential. Experience managing workflows, running complex searches, and evaluating search results and making critical distinctions on relevant documents is needed. Experience attending meet-and-confers, participating in hearings, corresponding with opposing counsel, preparing briefing and arguments on discovery issues, and advising clients on litigation and discovery strategies is preferred. Understanding of e-discovery rules and legal precedent is needed. Experience managing document review attorney teams and motivating top performance is essential. Experience resolving discovery disputes such as privilege log challenges is needed. Experience working directly with in-house legal teams during internal investigations is essential. Prior supervisory experience with technical staff is desirable.
