National Service Officer Duties: Manage all VA (Department of Veterans Affairs) claims obtained in the field. Provide representation to veterans/families before the VA. Work within DOD, VBA, and VHA offices to ensure timely and professional care of warriors. Develop and maintain relationships with related health care and social service providers. Remain current with all VA and DOD laws, regulations, and benefits. Plan, organize, and conduct benefit educational seminars. Maintain and update Project intranet electronic tracking systems. Develop community support and to speak on behalf of Project. Assist in all grassroots efforts and support specific campaigns as needed. Develop relationships that will foster and engage warriors and caregivers with Project programs. Maintain yearly VA laws and regulations certification.
Qualification and Experience
Requirements: High School Diploma or GED required, Bachelorâ€™s Degree preferred. 2+ year of experience as a veterans benefits advocate required. In lieu of advocate experience, JD Degree will be considered (no practicing experience necessary). Extensive knowledge and experience involving all DOD programs and VA laws and regulations. Excellent organizational, written, and communication skills. Self-motivated, positive, outgoing, personable, and able to relate well with diverse populations and age groups. Ability to timely complete required assignments. Ability to take initiative, multi-task, and work well under pressure. Effectively manage multiple priorities with a strong attention to detail in a fast paced environment. Organized, diligent, and able to troubleshoot, problem-solve and prioritize. Strong organizational and time management skills with a highly developed attention to detail. High level of proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office programs.
