ProfileSenior Trial Attorney The candidate Independently investigates and manages cases of moderate exposure and complexity in first party no-fault PIP and uninsured/underinsured motorist litigation from the inception of the lawsuit until conclusion through dismissal, settlement or trial. Works with adjusters and clients to resolve claims as expeditiously and efficiently as possible. Handles a caseload consisting of moderately complex legal assignments and exposures including first party no-fault PIP and uninsured/underinsured motorist litigation. Independently conducts trials, pre-trials, mediations, arbitrations or any other legal activity required to resolve cases. Advises claim professionals and provides legal advice to clients as needed. Negotiates settlements as directed. Attends round tables. Other duties as assigned.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must be admitted to the bar and must be licensed to practice law in the jurisdictions where assigned. 7-10 years’ experience in Michigan no-fault PIP litigation; Must have insurance defense jury trial experience. A general knowledge of insurance law and specific understanding of the operations and requirements of the company. Must have the knowledge and ability to assist, defend or plead for another. Have advanced knowledge and ability to deliberately and precisely exchange thoughts and opinions with one or more persons and to effectively translate legal language and ideas into layman's terms. Must have the ability to categorize and prioritize work and information to effectively maximize productivity. Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Word, Lexis/Westlaw, and daily management of e-mail and calendar; Apply creative use of technology to the process of law to improve quality. Able to work in a team environment with other attorneys, adjusters and other claims professionals and support staff. Have an ability to follow up step by step on inquiry or observation; to trace or track, search or examine with care and accuracy. Specifically, must take evidence that may be used in reaching a legal conclusion. Must demonstrate the ability to locate cases, treaties, codified laws and statutes aimed at the discovery and interpretation of law and to draw a reasonable and accurate conclusion or render an opinion there from. Have appropriate courtroom behavior, attire and decorum and is familiar with the rules and regulations that govern proceedings and conduct in courts of law or other legal forums and tribunals.
