Profile

Patent Attorney The candidate will develop and evaluate inventions, review patent applications and office action responses prepared by outside counsel, and analyze prior art to determine the patentable scope of the invention. Will also perform patent analysis (e.g., infringement, validity, product clearance, and landscape analysis), mine projects for new inventions, and provide guidance and training on IP issues. Will also be performing export clearance and assisting with open source clearance. May also draft patent applications and office action responses on an as-needed basis.

Qualification and Experience

Requirements: BS degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science with excellent academic credentials. Advanced technical degree will be a plus. JD degree and admission to a state Bar, preferably California. Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Knowledge and experience with technologies/inventions in areas such as, for example, software, user experience, video enhancement algorithms, audio signal processing and systems, display technologies, wearable devices, computer vision, health-related applications, electroluminescent materials, and/or energy storage and conversion. 2+ years of experience with patent preparation, patent prosecution, patent portfolio management, and patent analysis (patent infringement analysis, patent validity analysis, patent clearance analysis, and patent landscape analysis). Experience identifying patentable subject matter and evaluating inventions. Experience and understanding of good patent application drafting and prosecution techniques that result in patents that are valuable for litigation and licensing. Experience with open source and export compliance preferable but not required. Provide support for administrative tasks such as generating reports and disbursing patent awards. Self-motivated with an ability to work independently. Attention to detail and drive to produce excellent work product in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work in multi-cultural and team-oriented environment. Possess good oral and written communication skills. Must acquire a deep understanding of the technologies of the labs/business units that Will be supporting.
