Lead Housing Attorney
Responsibilities: Represent tenants in eviction cases including interviewing clients and assessing, researching, strategizing, and negotiating cases; prepare pleadings or other documents; represent clients in court, at administrative proceedings, and in other settings as necessary; and close cases. Train and supervise members of COVID Eviction Legal Help Project Team, which includes an Intake Specialist, Paralegal/Case Manager and Staff Housing Attorney. Supervise volunteer attorneys and law students to handle cases. Completion of administrative tasks in accordance with the policies as provided, fulfill grant requirements and obligations, including data reporting, and and attend and participate in all meetings related to this project. As directed, engage in community outreach activities, including presentations to stakeholders. Work collaboratively with others on project team to promote effective communication, coordination and teamwork. Perform other duties as needed, consistent with the provision of quality client service.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: JD Degree required. Must be admitted to the Massachusetts Bar. 5-10 years of legal practice experience preferred, 2+ years of which is court-based litigation. Experience in landlord-tenant law required. Experience supervising legal staff. Experience working with and/or representing a broad range of people from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds, people living with disabilities, and low-income people. Strong legal writing skills, including the ability to write briefs, pleadings and other legal documents. Strong collaborative, organizational skills and computer skills. Strong oral advocacy and negotiation skills. Ability to work and communicate effectively with co-workers, clients, members of the bar, and the local community. Experience working with interpreters or fluency in language(s) in addition to English preferred.
