Senior Manager, Clean Energy
The candidate will lead the on-the-ground work in Puerto Rico in full collaboration with colleagues and with local NGOs and other partners. Serve as the Energy program’s lead representative in Puerto Rico with government, communities, NGO partners and other stakeholders. Help design and oversee strategies for demonstrating that low carbon microgrids provide cleaner, less expensive, more reliable electricity to rural communities than traditional approaches to rural electrification, and that microgrids deserve a central role in utility planning in Puerto Rico. Working with colleagues and local partners, participate in utility planning and regulatory reform initiatives to help steer Puerto Rico toward a cleaner, more sustainable, more resilient energy future. Manage on-the-ground efforts to develop and deploy clean, low carbon microgrids in rural areas of Puerto Rico hard hit by Hurricane Maria. Collaborate to build strategic partnerships with local NGOs, communities, public officials, engineering firms, financial institutions and leading energy experts. Manage the necessary budget, personnel and/or consultants required for successful project implementation. Represent at various conferences and other public speaking engagements, and provide expert level information. Ensure that agreed upon goals and milestones are achieved in timely fashion. Participate effectively in science, policy, and communications team discussions as well as in strategic planning, program design and evaluation for the Energy program. Engage in fundraising support activities and collaborate on proposals and reports required by grantors or other requesting parties.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must have Degree in engineering, law or an MBA with 8+ years’ of related work experience. Experience in environmental and/or energy policy, economics, or a closely related field, such as environmental management, or public policy a plus. Should have project Development experience in the public or private sector. Should have excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to give presentations to large audiences. Fluency in both Spanish and English is required. Must have excellent research, analytical, and writing skills and ability to gather and summarize data for reports, policy papers and outreach materials. Must have experience managing a diverse workload. Experience writing grants and a successful track record of funding are essential. Should have experience designing and leading workshops and developing participatory processes to advance conservation projects.
