Legal Assistant I/II Duties: The candidate will prepare a variety of legal documents; to do limited legal research. Will generally receive assignments involving the preparation and analysis of legal documents and routine legal research including researching State and Federal statutes and regulations for pertinent information. Perform similar duties in preparing documents and conducting research pertinent to the practice of criminal law. Legal Assistant I: Prepares various types of legal documents after obtaining necessary facts and background information. Reviews documents for compliance with statutes, court decisions, or other legal authorities. Assists attorneys in the less complicated and technical research, document control, and analysis for litigation. Prepares drafts of resolutions for official action. Advises parties on requirements of document completion and publishing requirements. Assists in the maintenance of document and correspondence files. Assists in the preparation of subpoenas, writs, complaints, answers, and other documents related to litigation. Advises small claims court litigants and potential litigants. Prepares correspondence and reports. Operates a personal computer and various software to complete work. Performs other related duties as required. Legal Assistant II. Prepare a variety of legal documents; to perform legal research; and to assist in the training of other legal support personnel. Exercise greater initiative and judgment in legal research, document composition, and witness preparation than incumbents of the Legal Assistant I level. Individuals assigned to the District Attorney's Office perform similar duties in preparing documents and conducting research pertinent to the practice of criminal law. Promotion to this level may be made on a merit basis subject to recommendation of the Department Head and approval of the Director of Personnel. Prepares a variety of legal documents after obtaining necessary facts and background information. Reviews documents for compliance with statutes, court decisions, or other legal authorities. Formulates research issues based on a general statement of facts and employs variety of research sources to determine a conclusion. Uses computer-assisted research methods to accomplish tasks. Assists attorneys in document control, and analysis for litigation; advises parties on requirements of document completion and publishing requirements; assists in the maintenance of document and correspondence files. Assists in the preparation of subpoenas, writs, complaints, answers, and other documents related to litigation. Operates a personal computer and various software to prepare correspondence and reports and other work as assigned. Advises small claims court litigants and potential litigants. Assists in the training of other legal support staff. Performs related duties as assigned
Qualification and Experience
Qualification: Legal Assistant I: The candidate must have graduation from high school and 3+ years of experience preparing a variety of legal documents, supplemented by coursework in legal office practices and business law; OR Must have completion of an approved legal paraprofessional training program, And two (2) years of experience in the preparation of legal documents; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Legal Assistant II : The candidate must have graduation from high school and 5+ years of experience performing work equivalent to Legal Assistant I OR completion of an approved legal paraprofessional training program and 3+years of experience equivalent to Legal Assistant I. Knowledge of various legal documents and their uses; filing procedures and legal terminology; legal office practices and procedure is essential. Deadline: 26 March, 2018
