Deputy Clerk III The candidate under general supervision, will perform a wide variety of clerical and technical functions in support of court operations. The following are currently assigned duties. These may be reassigned within the court based on business requirements. Answer the telephone and route calls to staff; answer questions from the public and provide general assistance by handing out court forms, making copies, and directing customers to the appropriate clerk or to other agencies; Restock form and publication racks as needed; Receive and receipt revenue and bail monies with appropriate documents; receive and file stamp court filings and route to appropriate clerk; Perform notary duties, certify copies of court documents, and collect fees; Create terms in Jury View for trial and grand jury; update juror records and print scanned questionnaires for jurors requesting deferral or excusal; Route requests for excusal and deferral to the judicial officer and update records in JuryView; Prepare and distribute written jury schedules; prepare sign-in sheets for grand jury qualification, grand jury proceedings, and trial jury selection; Document juror attendance and prepare order to appear notices for jurors that do not appear; prepare juror notices including signs, radio messages, recorded phone message, and electronic notifications; prepare jury room and maintain supplies. Manage minor offense citations cases; use CourtView to open, receipt monies, calendar, close and maintain warning notice/default procedures; purge old citations per retention schedule; Perform records research and respond to record check requests; collect fees for duplication and records requests; Mail outgoing mail and check mail at post office once per day; file stamp incoming mail and route to appropriate personnel; Assist the public with marriage license applications and prepare marriage licenses for signature; collect fees and issue receipts for applications and ceremonies; receive and prepare marriage commissioner appointments for Presiding Judge to issue. Serve as the in-court clerk for minor offense and grand jury proceedings; be available to work weekends and holidays when the Nome weekend/holiday clerk needs assistance or is unavailable; Announce opening and closing of court proceedings; prepare courtroom for hearings, post daily court calendar, and test recording equipment; Review case files for prior and pending actions; Open court and take roll of jurors and track juror attendance; administer oaths to jurors, witnesses, bailiffs, interpreters, and other persons; Mark and maintain exhibits and lists; ensure exhibits are properly stored and secured; Record court proceedings and prepare an accurate summary; troubleshoot hardware and software problems and report malfunctions; Provide case-related information to attorneys, parties, and others; perform in-courting duties for other case types as directed by the Clerk of Court.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have completed Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate and 1 year of office clerical experience and the ability to type at least 40 words per minute (net).
Substitution: Additional office clerical work experience will substitute for the high school diploma or GED certificate on a month-for-month basis. Completion of 36 semester credit hours or 48 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college will substitute for the year of required office clerical experience. Completion of an appropriate vocational training course of study such as legal secretary, paralegal, or office skills will substitute for the required office clerical experience on a month-for-month basis.
