Labor & Employment Counsel Duties: Schedule, salaried position designed to be flexible on location, and is a “remote” (working from home, even post-pandemic lockdown) position with access to any of local offices as needed. Will routinely interface directly with clients and Firm partners, as well as provide litigation recommendations and develop defense strategy. Will be dedicated to a somewhat limited number of client portfolios of employment work, such that will become immersed in the business needs of a particular industry or industries and will be able to develop a deep knowledge of a client’s preferences, as well as grow the client relationship. Will be responsible for handling and litigating such clients’ portfolios within a particular geographic region, in addition to working directly with the relevant relationship partners to foster a stronger client relationship. Responsible for leading, managing, and/or supporting legal matters relating to Single-Plaintiff Litigation and Administrative Charges. Will handle matters in federal and state courts, and before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and perhaps the Department of Labor, as well as other federal, state, and local administrative agencies, with minimal oversight. Will have the ability to handle a practice that includes both overseeing EEOC Charges, including defending investigations, preparing position statements, defending clients in fact-finding conferences and on-site visits, representing clients in mediations and conciliations, and negotiating settlements, as well as directly managing single-plaintiff litigation, including drafting responsive pleadings, handling all aspects of the discovery process (including taking and defending depositions), drafting motions and briefs, including motions for summary judgment, and occasionally attending and handling arbitrations. Occasional travel, both in-state and out-of-state, may be required.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Admission to the California state Bar. 8+ years of increasingly responsible employment law experience, preferably on the defense side. Experience handling a single-plaintiff employment lawsuit from start to finish with minimal oversight. Top law firm experience. Excellent academic credentials. Stellar analytical skills; and strong verbal and written communication skills. Must be very comfortable handling a single-plaintiff employment lawsuit from start to finish with minimal oversight.
