Legal Assistant III The candidate will provide support for one or more Assistant Attorneys General. Duties may include but are not limited to assessing and preparing case files for court hearings, assisting in trial preparation and document management, conducting and drafting stipulations with the parties, following through with post-hearing work and responding to inquiries from the court, client-agency and public. Manages the paternity caseload which includes drafting motions and correspondence, scheduling and following up on genetic testing appointments. Other duties as assigned as related to the position. Knowledge and understanding of applicable statutes, rules and regulations of state and federal courts required. Knowledge of legal research techniques, terminology, forms, court procedures and applicable time frames in general required. Extensive knowledge of court procedures and federal rules and regulations required. Knowledge of the principles, concepts, practices, methods and techniques common to a modern law office required. Skills in written and oral communication required. Skills in dealing with the public required. Skills in coordinating legal requests, inquires and responses expeditiously required. Skills in conducting and controlling interviews with parties involved in legal actions required. Ability to appropriately incorporate all current state laws, rules and regulations and agency and in-office procedures as well as rules of court required. Ability to analyze situations and use good judgment in making decisions required. Ability to independently identify issues and prepare analysis of case files and legal documentation, incorporating all facts obtained in a thorough, orderly but concise manner required. Ability to prepare legal pleadings correspondence required. Ability to interact with and obtain information from litigants, court officials and representatives of state agencies required. Should have a paralegal certification through an institutionally accredited program and 1 year of full-time employment as a paralegal or, alternatively, 2 years full-time employment as a paralegal required.
