ProfileCommercial Counsel The candidate will negotiate complex master agreements with firmâ€™s customers, and technology contracts with vendors. Will provide timely, concise and business-focused legal advice on payments law impacting firmâ€™s contractual relationships. Continuously improve standard form agreements and legal processes to help scale the legal function. Work in partnership with other members of the legal team. Instruct and manage outside counsel, as necessary. Handle other matters as required to support the business. An experienced, solution-oriented and proactive attorney is needed. Should have JD degree and 6+ years of experience practicing either in-house (or in an equivalent setting) or at a reputable law firm, with 2+ years working in or advising companies in the payments space. Must be admitted to the California state Bar or certified to practice in California. Strong track record negotiating a range of complex commercial agreements, including sales, IP licensing, partnerships, and marketing is needed. Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to work both in teams and independently is essential. Experience drafting and negotiating contracts for payments companies or financial institutions are needed. A working knowledge of laws impacting the payments industry is a plus, including federal and state consumer financial and protection laws and regulations like, Regulation E; Regulation Z, BSA/AML, UDAAP, and data privacy law is needed.
