Director, Legal The candidate will serve as key legal advisor for the business including providing strategic advice on licensing and services matters and assist the business in structuring complex transactions. Manage a team of legal professionals responsible for reviewing, negotiating and drafting high value software licenses and services agreements, including enterprise on-premises licenses, managed services, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and cloud, consulting, NDA, RFP, subcontracts, teaming agreements, standards certifications, and required but non-standard government requirements of various types in support of Symantec’s enterprise Public Sector and GHE sales and channels organizations. Periodically engage with federal, state and local contracting officers and government attorneys to resolve challenging public sector legal issues. Train the GHE and Public Sector business management and other interested staff on contracting compliance requirements in support of sales and contracting activities. Act as subject matter expert on information security and privacy issues in GHE and Public Sector sales transactions, including offering advice and training as needed. Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external customers and build strong relationships. Provide support and escalation to other team members on substantive legal issues. Collaborating with functional team members on ad hoc projects. Co-ordinate on development and implementation of new contract templates and contract management systems; ensure that all legal and business requirements are addressed appropriately. Provide primary liaison legal support where applicable on litigation and compliance matters. Provide advice and support to other legal team members on various legal and regulatory matters. Manage all compliance relating to public sector sales including management of information and reporting. Develops, tracks and reports on key metrics to demonstrate team value. Must have US law degree and Bar membership in good standing. Should have proven post qualification with 12+ years of experience in-house with established technical/legal expertise from a medium to larger high technology business engaged in public sector and enterprise software and services sales support (including SaaS or other hosted services) or some combination as an associate at a law firm engaged in advising clients concerning these same business areas. Sound experience with the Federal Acquisition Regulations, the DFARS and applicable agency supplements is needed. Knowledge of federal schedule / MAS contracting, e.g. GSA experience is a plus. Experienced with the legal issues surrounding healthcare customer technology needs (e.g., Business Associate Agreements, etc.) is must. Sound knowledge and experience in practical application of contract law and government procurement and compliance with related government regulations is essential. Experienced in training field sales and consulting services organizations on public sector and healthcare related issues, including procurement integrity, CRADA’s, teaming issues, bid protests, FOIA and related topics is needed. Sound working knowledge of commercial, IT/IP law is must. Experience in drafting and negotiation of contracts with public sector and healthcare clients and businesses (i.e. partners) serving the public sector and healthcare communities is required. Experience working for US publicly-traded company focusing on global issues; understanding of revenue recognition principles, GDPR, etc is needed. IT Literate, with working knowledge of using Word, Excel and Powerpoint is required. Security clearance, or the ability to qualify for a security clearance is a plus. Experience in other relevant areas such as healthcare, data privacy, cybersecurity, compliance and/or competition is helpful.
