ProBAR Senior Staff Attorney - HRL - Adult Office The candidate will be accountable for facilitating pro bono representation of detained unaccompanied child respondents in immigration removal proceedings, including by providing direct representation as required or permitted by current funding contract(s). Serves as mentor and leader to staff attorneys, legal interns, and volunteers, including by maintaining current materials and trainings on legal services. Provides direct representation to detained or locally released immigrants as required or permitted by current funding contract(s). Reviews legal screenings conducted by shelter services departments and reviews and assigns follow-up services, including additional interviewing, referrals to other legal services providers and advocates, or in- house representation. Regularly appears in immigration court to represent clients in removal proceedings and to act as Friend of Court for other detained youth as appropriate. Assists in the training and retention of pro bono attorneys and other legal volunteers. Assists with tracking and developing legal training needs for legal and shelter services department staff. Accesses, processes, and ensures the confidentiality and control of client information. Monitors case activities and maintains the data integrity of case management systems. Performs other related duties as required.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have Possession of a Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA-accredited law school. Should preferably licensed to practice law and member in good standing of State Bar of Texas. Must be licensed to practice law in a U.S. state or territory or Accreditation, as required in order to appear as representative before immigration court. 1 year experience in representing clients before various venues on immigration matters is required. Fluency in English and Spanish in written and spoken forms is needed. Prior volunteer, community, or work experience regarding immigration or detention is desired. Prior non-profit experience, particularly involving field work or work in remote locations is preferred.
