Staff Attorney The candidate will focus on litigating high-impact cases involving cutting-edge constitutional law and other novel theories, as well as helping advance the organizationâ€™s mission through direct legal services, policy advocacy, and public education. Will lead work on Transgender Law Centerâ€™s legal services and impact litigation docket, including work within the Detention Project. Handle all aspects of litigation in precedent-setting cases before trial, in trial courts, and on appeal, including developing litigation strategy, managing relationships with co-counsel, performing legal research, and drafting or revising briefs. Ensure racial justice and social justice values are embedded in our litigation and legal services work, including TGNC community-driven legal and organizing strategies. Investigate and develop potential new matters, including drafting demand letters and corresponding with opposing counsel. Draft communications materials relating to cases and policy efforts, including press releases, blog posts, and descriptions for firmâ€™s website. Develop publications and other legal resources, and engage in writing for a broader audience on issues relating to transgender rights. Speak to the media and the general public about transgender issues in a way that represents positions and builds public understanding of and empathy for transgender people. Compile data and draft narrative descriptions of firmâ€™s legal and policy work for grant reports and proposals. As needed, strategize and collaborate with all programs to ensure that litigation efforts reflect and reinforce firmâ€™s programmatic work. Collaborate with colleagues across the movement, including both grassroots leaders and other lawyers, to strategize about how to advance protections for TGNC people, particularly black folks and people of color.
