Profile

VAWA Paralegal Duties: Prescreen immigrant survivors of domestic violence or other violent crimes to review client eligibility for legal or social services. Safety plan with client and conduct shelter outreach where necessary. Prepare immigration forms with clients and submit prepared files for attorney review. Maintain accurate and orderly records and files. Schedule appointments with clients. Answer basic questions regarding clients’ cases. Follow up on receipts of immigration applications. Maintain up-to-date information, intakes, and referral resources. Accompany clients to USCIS as needed. Translate immigration-related documents. Participate in immigration outreach activities with Managing Director or VAWA Lead Attorney. Perform general office duties, including faxing, copying, filing, and taking photographs. Performs other related duties and tasks as necessary or as assigned.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Previous experience in social services serving victims of domestic violence. Fluent in English and Spanish. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written. Attentive to detail and ability to work with little supervision. Ability to work in fast-paced environment with heavy caseload. Knowledge of Word Processing software and Spreadsheet software.
