Insurance and Litigation Paralegal
Duties: Facilitates the gathering of underwriting data and preparation of insurance applications for renewals; Maintains list of insurance and covered entities and calendars renewals; Facilitates the processing of premium payments coordinating among 3 hospitals and other entities; Coordinates receipt of loss run release authorizations and liability applications from physicians and enrollment into the captive; Responds to requests for certificates of insurance and obtains certificates of insurance for distribution with policy renewal; Coordinates responses to hospital and outside entity requests for claim verifications; Maintains a list of covered physicians and reconciles the list quarterly with the captive manager; Coordinates with the risk management staff on maintaining a list of potentially compensable events and ensures timely reporting to insurance carrier; Assists with gathering documents and evidence for actual and potential events; Coordinates and maintains accurate list of claims and lawsuits and maintains litigation files either in hard copy or through file management software; Facilitates the tracking of invoices and billing activity; able to conduct cursory review of legal bills for accuracy; Coordinates with outside counsel on discovery demands; Assists with the review of subpoenas and responses; Works with TPA for captive to gather and provide reports on litigation trends; Assists the Corporate Director of Risk Management in the preparation of routine reports of claim activity and litigation activity; Establishes and maintains filing systems for litigation and insurance related matters; Performs administrative tasks such as filing and scheduling of meetings and conferences as needed; Responsible for performing other duties as assigned.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Associates degree in paralegal studies or bachelor’s degree and a certificate in paralegal studies. Paralegal Degree or Certificate. Must possess strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Most possess the ability to work as part of a team. Must be able to adapt to changing work priorities and emerging issues. Must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and excellent written and oral communication skills. Able to work independently and organize workload to meet established priorities; Able to use PowerPoint, MS Word, Excel and other programs to prepare correspondence, documents and presentations.
