Counsel (Environmental & Regulatory Law) Duties: Responsible for handling regulatory legal work and related litigation of the company. Represents in legal and administrative proceedings involving environmental, safety and related issues. Selects and manages outside counsel representing in legal and administrative proceedings, and where appropriate, appears directly as counsel. 20% travel is expected. Counsels the company and its employees on regulatory compliance. Advises regarding disputes, potential disputes, or compliance issues, which have not risen to litigation. Monitors and advises management regarding legislative and regulatory developments relevant to business. Evaluates and pursues indemnity or insurance coverage in appropriate circumstances. Investigates and evaluates potential claims by the company and any compliance concerns involving assets. Coordinates discovery, including the preparation of witnesses and the collection of documents and other information. Responds to and negotiates with governmental regulators. Handles administrative processes and hearings.
Qualification and Experience
Requirements: Bachelor's degree required. Law degree required from an accredited law school. 5+ years experience in regulatory and environmental legal practice with another major public corporation or a law firm is required. Direct, substantive experience with CAA, CWA, RCRA, CERCLA, PHMSA and OSHA is preferred. Agency experience may be considered depending on the nature of the experience. Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Ability to work well independently and with others and good judgment required.
