Contracts Specialist, Paralegal
Duties: Review contracts (non-construction or capital improvements) and grant agreements prior to finance committee/board review and adoption. Streamline process for contract review with Project Manager, Finance, to ensure that all contracts and grant agreements are reviewed. Clearly communicate expectations for receiving, clarifying, and returning contracts. Develop strong, trusting business partnerships with teams so that contract revisions are made promptly. Mitigate organizational risk by ensuring key components of contracts are incorporated. Stay up to date on contract and procurement requirements to ensure compliance measures are built in. Review RFP and procurement documents to incorporate contract templates prior to posting. Manage swift contract approval process later by incorporating contract language in RFP posting. Provide transparency around contract expectations up front. Be an additional set of eyes on RFP language and compliance pieces to ensure high quality execution. Participate in RFP/scoring processes, as determined necessary. Create and maintain a library of contract templates and best practices for organizational usage. Manage templates for staff usage so that design is better facilitated for independent consultants, thus lessening wait time for review and minimizing revisions. Create a library of trainings on contract template expectations. Monitor for updates to practices and support implementation across the organization. Serve as a content expert on contract rules for the organization. Conduct research and support building of execution plans as IDEA explores growth in new regions. Support training of staff members on how to appropriately procure and engage in contract process. Create tools for self-inquiry to contract process. Ensure that grant agreements align with legal requirements to protect organization. Partner with VP of Legal Services, Advancement Team, and financial team to mitigate risk in engaging in grant agreements. Support Advancement team in building standard grant agreement language for use.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Associate’s required; paralegal or legal assistant training. 5-7 years similar or relatable experience. Knowledge of school finance and contract law. Familiarity with TEA requirements. Ability to prioritize tasks and execute independently. Detail orientation. Ability to capture and plan work. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to collect and analyze information from multiple sources.
