Staff Attorney (Direct Services), Victim Rights Law Center Responsibilities: Conduct holistic, comprehensive legal intakes with adult and minor sexual assault survivors. Provide survivor-centered legal services to sexual assault victims in Clackamas, Multnomah, and Washington counties on matters including but not limited to privacy, safety, employment, housing, financial stability, immigration, education, and advocacy in the criminal justice system. Assist with the delivery of statewide legal services on limited immigration and/or education matters if consistent with prior experience. Help recruit, train and supervise law students and lawyers assisting transgender survivors statewide with gender marker/identity document changes, and represent transgender survivors on these same matters. Conduct outreach and work collaboratively with grant and community partners, including but not limited to assisting with intensive outreach and networking in Washington County, to increase awareness of and promote access to Center services. Conduct client intakes and meetings at the County Family Justice Centers. Participate in weekly intake and case assessment meetings with Center staff. Assist with grant management including client services data collection and grant reporting. Work collaboratively with a team of VRLC lawyers, support staff, and volunteers.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Admitted to practice law in Oregon. 1+ year legal experience. Strong writing skills. Effective verbal communication skills. Ability to pass a criminal background check. Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and willing to drive throughout the state. Experience working with vulnerable populations. Preferred: Experience in immigration law. Bilingual in English and Spanish. Experience creating and delivering effective trainings. Demonstrated commitment to serving victims of gender-based violence. Courtroom experience.
