Immigration Staff Attorney Duties: Assist clients with U visas, special immigrant juvenile status, family-based petitions, waivers of inadmissibility, and removal proceedings. Will be an employee but will principally be based at our partner agency, Catholic Charities, where immigration caseworkers provide citizenship services, U-Visa assistance, and a range of other immigration services. Will provide legal counsel to the caseworkers, in addition to representing their own clients. Services provided will include one-on-one assistance with pleadings, legal advice and information, and in-court representation. Provide legal advice and counsel on immigration issues to clients and to Catholic Charities immigration caseworkers. Provide legal representation in immigration matters before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Immigration Court, and Board of Immigration Appeals. Manage a diverse case load. Participate in community outreach events and presentations. Maintain and establish relationships with community partners and immigration service providers. Attend regularly scheduled partner and staff meetings. Maintain up-to-date case notes, time reporting, and statistical records on services provided in online client database. Conduct various service evaluation activities including follow-up interviews and case management for clients who received assistance. Collect and maintain statistical records on services provided, as required by funders. Participate at annual fundraising and donor/community outreach events.
Qualification and Experience
REQUIREMENTS: Licensed to practice Law in the State of California. Previous experience in legal services and/or demonstrated commitment to public interest law work is strongly preferred. Fluency in Spanish required. Knowledge of immigration law, as reflected in coursework, internships, and/or post-graduate legal experience. Two or more years of immigration experience preferred. Demonstrated ability to work with all persons regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, economic background, immigration status, gender identification, or sexual orientation. Values working cooperatively with others, both within the organization and in the community. Ability to work independently and as a member of a diverse team. Working knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Office, legal forms software, and database programs. Ability to organize and prioritize work effectively with great attention to detail, including timely case management and a commitment to accurate and on time data and time keeping reporting.
