ProfileSenior Attorney - SES The candidate: Acts as chief litigation attorney in the Office of General Counsel under the supervision and direction of the General Counsel. Oversees and is responsible for all litigation brought by and against the Department of State. Represents the Secretary of State, the Department of State, and/or its operating divisions in legal proceedings brought in state and federal courts and administrative tribunals. Prepares complaints, responses, briefs, memoranda of law, discovery, recommended orders, and other legal documents necessary for adequate representation. Acts as senior legal counsel for the Department of State and serves as legal counsel to the Department and its operating divisions in all legal matters under the supervision and direction of the General Counsel. Provides guidance to the Department of State and its operating divisions in the formulation of policies and procedures governing agency operations. Review elections fraud complaints submitted to the Department of State, and access the Florida Voter Registration System (FVRS) to perform necessary duties related to preliminary investigations of those complaints to determine whether complaints should be referred to the appropriate prosecuting authority. Coordinate adjudications of petitions for variances and waivers as they pertain to operation of Department rules. Performs other related duties as assigned including, but not limited to, accessing the Florida Voter Registration System (FVRS) to perform necessary duties to view or enter registration data in FVRS. Should have JD degree from an accredited school. Should have 4+ years’ experience in litigation. Must me member in good standing with the Florida Bar. Discovery experience is essential. Experience drafting motions, memoranda of law, and/or appellate briefs are must. Should have experience making appearances in state court, federal court, and/or the Division of Administrative Hearings. Closing Date: 03/31/2018.
