Paralegal The candidate will assist with Case Openings, including preparation of draft retainer agreements and conflicts check. Create, update and maintain a Pleadings File and corresponding Pleadings Index for each litigation matter. Organize and maintain electronic Case Files. Assist Case Calendaring by ensuring that Calendaring Clerk has all court dates, deadlines and other relevant dates, and filling in when Calendaring Clerk is absent. Establish and organize eRooms in voluminous document cases. Work with attorneys and support staff in performing and overseeing document reviews and productions. Assist with or oversee copy projects as requested. Assist in preparing written discovery requests and responses (document demands, form interrogatories, special interrogatories, requests for admissions, third party subpoenas). Review, distribute and ensure Firm compliance with Protective Orders. Assist in drafting and serving Deposition Notices. Perform document searches and pulls in preparation for depositions. Arrange for court reporter and videographer for depositions. Pull, organize and copy exhibits for use at depositions. Assist at depositions as requested. Order and maintain deposition, hearing and trial transcripts. Participate in client and witness interviews by taking notes and preparing interview memoranda per Firm format. Assist in preparing pleadings, including caption page, table of contents, table of authorities, proof of service, proper formatting, cite checking and proofing. Assist in preparing forms for filing, including summons, substitution and association of counsel, CMC Statement, etc. Perform electronic filing of pleadings in federal cases and in state cases where available, including File and Serve. Order court reporter in civil cases as needed. Ensure jury fees are posted. Perform light legal research, including cite-checking cases cited in opposing party’s papers. Perform online background research regarding clients, opposing parties, opposing counsel, co-counsel, witnesses, prospective jurors, judges and subject matter areas. Perform public record searches as requested. Pull, organize and maintain pleadings and rulings from parallel and related cases. Assist in preparing PowerPoint demonstrations, including formatting and graphics. Assist in preparing Demonstrative Aids, including charts, tables and diagrams. Prepare cover letters and emails distributing materials. Assemble, organize, tab, index and label notebooks of materials as requested. Assist in preparing for trial, including preparing exhibits, exhibit list, exhibit notebooks, witness list, witness notebooks, pleadings and legal research notebooks, etc. Assist in Case Closings, including case closing letter to client, boxing case files and sending to storage, completing case closing documentation and collecting and destroying or returning documents per agreement or order. Must be proficient with iManage and Disco document management software.
