Employment Counsel Duties: Serve as a subject matter expert in all areas of employment law with particular emphasis on Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA and FLSA. Provide advice and counsel to management and human resources partners on a broad range of employment issues, including: recruiting, hiring, employee relations, discipline, terminations, leaves of absence, accommodations, wage and hour compliance, contingent worker issues, and internal investigations. Oversee the administration of separation agreements including ensuring adequate legal review, proper processing and reporting. Assist with the formulation and revision of employment policies and guidance to ensure consistency of employment practices. Assist with the design of educational programs and tools for human resources business partners on various employments laws and best practices. Advise business partners on existing and new products to mitigate legal risk and review business and marketing materials. Prepare and execute strategy for responding to individual and administrative claims of independent contractor misclassification on a nationwide basis. Actively manage litigation, including demand letters, individual arbitrations and lawsuits, as well as class actions on a nationwide basis. Identify and interpret employment law developments and changes in the law, and provide relevant summary communications and recommendations to human resources business partners. Recommend, manage and implement various projects and programs that support team goals. Ensure projects are completed in accordance with company guidelines, quality standards, budget, and targeted time frame.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: JD Degree with 4 + years of legal experience with employment law. Active membership in at least one U. S. state Bar (California preferred). Demonstrated ability to independently manage a diverse and complex workload while maintaining priorities and proactively anticipating issues. Consistent good judgment and ability to apply legal knowledge to help create practical business solutions. Flexibility, a positive attitude, a sense of humor and ability to constructively manage change. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. In-house legal experience preferred, particularly in connection with technology platforms.
