ProfileEqual Justice Works - Americorps Internship The candidate will support program staff, supervisor, and administrative staff in duties as appropriate and necessary. Consult with supervisor if have any ideas, issues, or concerns, offering analysis and solutions whenever possible. Practice sound health habits, including getting sufficient rest, to effectively perform the position requirements. Respect confidentiality of clients, staff, and other AmeriCorps members. Make connections with individuals and volunteers in the community for program outreach and program enhancement. Assist AmeriCorps members and staff in programming and activities. Train and assist volunteers when appropriate. Assist with the initial screening of unaccompanied minor children; communicate with child clients, adult sponsors, and other agencies; and draft case referral memos. Research current trends in immigration law and family law, country conditions, and other federal laws to assist in case preparation. Assisting with motions, affidavits, briefs, and memoranda of law. Update case summaries, track important court dates and deadlines, process referrals and communicate with clients. Participate in AmeriCorps training and national service events as required and requested by the New York State Commission on National and Community Service. Participate in orientation training. Participate in substantive legal issue training as provided by Equal Justice Works. Must be currently enrolled in an accredited JD or LLM program. Should be fluent in Spanish & English. Must have exceptional academic credentials, strong writing skills and attention to detail. Experience in immigration and family law strongly preferred. Experience working with children and survivors of trauma preferred.
