Litigation - General (consumer)
Min 7 yrs required
Senior Staff Attorney - Litigation Responsibilities: Work in collaboration and coalitions to identify impact litigation cases; Take the lead in litigating civil rights cases initiated by Advancing Justice - LA and cases that joins as co-counsel; Coordinate collaborative work with co-counsel, including attorneys at other affiliates and other civil rights organizations, community organizers, and pro bono law offices, including negotiating legal fee agreements; Participate in developing short and long-term litigation plans that fit into the mission of program areas and our national affiliation; Represent clients in litigation in federal and state court, arbitration proceedings, and administrative tribunals across the country; Engage in policy advocacy as needed as a companion or alternative strategy where litigation alone may not serve community needs, and Build relationships with media, community organizations, and private and public lawyers.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: 7+ years' litigation experience required, including experience litigating multi-plaintiff, class action and other large-scale or impact cases; Demonstrated commitment to public interest work, civil rights, and community empowerment, preferably on behalf of underserved AA/NHPI or other immigrant communities; Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively to identify and litigate cases, as well as identify other advocacy strategies responsive to community needs that advance the organization’s mission; Availability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends; Language ability in an Asian language or Spanish preferred; Specialization in Immigrants’ Rights, Voting Rights, or Racial/Religious Profiling preferred; Experience supervising attorneys, legal interns and/or litigation support staff preferred.
