Senior Assistant Corporation Counsel The candidate, under limited direction, represents the County in complex civil suits and acts as legal counsel for County administrators and elected officials, involving the review of legal documents, legal research and writing, and trial work. Represents the County in real estate transactions as well as representing the County and its elected and appointed officials in civil law, property, and taxation matters. Defends the County and its elected officials, employees, and agents in disputed claims or civil suits. Develops and prosecutes complex cases initiated by the County and/or defends the County against civil suits brought against it. Coordinates and monitors the progress of litigations brought against the County that are represented by outside counsel. Utilizes current Countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have a Bachelor of Law or a J.D. degree from an accredited college of law. Must have 6+ years of full-time work experience in the practice of law, including such areas as real estate transactions, tort defense, auto defense, local government taxation, workers' compensation, employment law, contracts, leases, insurance law, trial and/or appellate work, and legal issues regarding government duties, responsibilities, immunities, and privileges. Should be a member in good standing of the State Bar of Michigan. Must remain in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan.
