Staff Counsel Legal Collections The candidate will manage high volume production; assists with management and resolution of corporate litigation; provides legal support for the collections litigation business unit; provides legal advice in connection with the company's business operations; supports corporate compliance with laws and regulations governing debt collection and related activities; conduct occasional legal research; and assist with special projects, as required. Will assist with special projects for Internal Legal or Legal Outsourcing. Ensure adherence to Consumer Bill of Rights by enforcing relevant company policies. Determine appropriate settlements with consumers experiencing temporary or permanent hardships, and communicate with consumers and counsel to encourage financial recovery and appropriate resolution of accounts. Manage, direct, and resolve pending litigation matters cost-effectively by working with business clients and support staff to gather information relevant to lawsuits. Negotiate with opposing counsel, conduct and respond to discovery, and prepare and attend hearings and trials. Provide legal advice to company to support compliance with federal, state, and local laws. Work with legal operations team to support business goals by ensuring timely review and execution of legal pleadings. Active Bar membership in the State of Colorado and Michigan or licensed in the state of Colorado for 3 years and willing to get licensed in the state of Michigan is essential. Must have JD degree from an accredited law school. Must have 1-3 years experience in collection law.
