Staff Attorney The candidate provides legal assistance (advice, negotiation, litigation, administrative advocacy, appellate work) to clients and client groups pursuant to program priorities and policies. Interviews clients and ascertain substantive elements of the client’s problem. Develops a case strategy for obtaining the client’s goals. Communicates with client and others. Conducts factual investigation, discovery and obtain expert assistance, as required. Researchs the law. Prepares legal pleadings and other documents. Conducts negotiations. Appears on behalf of clients at court and administrative hearings. Participates in the community. Presents information to community groups about legal rights and LSNWJ services in the substantive area and prepares materials related to these presentations. Participates in committees, task forces, and working groups related to the work of the attorney. Provides training to other legal advocates; prepares materials relating to these presentations. Works with members of the private bar and corporate counsel in connection with the LSNWJ Volunteer Program. Must have good analytical, oral communication and writing skills. Should have the ability to handle varied legal matters. Good capabilities of technology, including word processing, case database, calendaring and scheduling software, e-filing, e-mail and legal software is required. Ability to maintain a good working relationship with all staff and work in team environment is required. Should have the knowledge of and strict adherence to the Rules of Professional Conduct and regulations, ethics, policies and procedures that apply to legal services programs. Must have J.D. degree from accredited law school. Should be Licensed attorney of the State of New Jersey or licensed in another state and committed to seeking NJ Bar admission. Must have 2+ years of experience with legal services or in litigation practice. Should have the demonstrated commitment to public interest law.
