ProfileLegal Assistant 3, Revenue and Finance Division, Attorney General's Office Duties: In support of the mission and values of the Attorney General's Office, performs senior legal assistant support for attorneys to ensure efficient and effective representation to client agencies. Identify and pursue next steps in litigation or adjudication process. Verify legal citations and references for accuracy, consistency, and case relevance. Initiate correspondence and pleadings for signature. Review and proofread legal documents for proper formatting and ensure court rules are followed. Check legal citations and references, including Westcheck of case citations. Draft and prepare pleadings and discovery as needed. Serve and file pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal documents meeting specific time requirements, court schedules, and confirmation procedures. Organize and prepare litigation documents for trial and/or hearings, including organizing and preparing witness and exhibit lists, exhibit and trial notebooks, and subpoenas. Maintain physical and electronic files, including electronic calendars. On a rotational basis, act in the capacity of a primary critical events reader. Assist attorneys with monitoring Special Assistant Attorney General (SAAG) appointments to ensure contract files are up-to-date, invoice billing is in accordance with contract and amendment language, and cost invoices are entered in Law Manager per SAAG CMS Business Rules. Performs entry level paralegal duties such as: drafting standard interrogatories, assisting attorneys or paralegal with deposition and case summaries; conducting basic legal research, drafting requests for production of documents and responses; and organizing and preparing trial notebooks, pleadings, and exhibits to be used at trial. Prepare trial/administrative hearing exhibits and courtroom aids incorporating current technology. Utilize databases for document management. Review discovery requests provided by opposing party and identify necessary information needed to obtain appropriate records.
Qualification and Experience
Option 1: High School diploma or equivalent and 4 years of experience in a legal environment in support of an attorney, administrative law judge(s), review judge(s) or equivalent;
Option 2: 1 year as a Legal Assistant 2;
Option 3: A two-year degree in Legal Secretary Studies, Paralegal Studies or related field of study plus 2 years of legal office experience.
A Bachelor's degree may substitute for the Legal Secretary or Paralegal degree.
