Litigation Specialist The candidate will prepare and/or review legal documents, such as responses to discovery, affidavits, correspondence, settlement agreements, repayment calculations/options and various pleadings for review and use by in-house attorneys and outside counsel. Will testify at depositions, hearings, and/or trials as necessary. Research and respond to issues concerning administrative options available to borrowers. Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of relevant statutes, regulations, and industry practices and apply knowledge to legal cases. Obtain, interpret, and summarize relevant records, documents, policies and procedures, and/or correspondence for legal accounts. Respond to requests from in-house attorneys, local counsel, internal business partners, and third parties. Assist in-house attorneys with projects relating to internal business partners. Work with in-house attorneys and local counsel as needed to review and analyze information obtained throughout the case and assist with witness and/or trial preparation. Take the lead on low balance litigation matters and attempt to resolve with minimal need for outside counsel involvement. Develop in-depth knowledge of firm’s systems and industry contacts to expedite information gathering. Provide direction for Legal Administrative Assistant team on issues regarding case referral and outside counsel requests. Provide back-up support for legal support staff including the Corporate Paralegal and Legal Administrative Assistant. Perform a variety of administrative duties with a high degree of responsibility and significant flexibility. Comply with all Group Policies. Perform other duties as assigned. Must have a High School diploma or GED. Should have 2+ years of working in a clerical support role or an ABA approved paralegal certification. Post-secondary degree is preferred. Experience working in the student loan or financial industry is a plus. Must be able to simultaneously organize, schedule, and manager multiple litigation-based tasks. Should have strong written and verbal communication skills. Basic knowledge and skills working in a computer based office suite environment; Microsoft Windows or Mac Office is required.
