Paralegal The candidate will plans, implements, monitors, and coordinates legal activities; researches, analyzes, investigates, and drafts legal documents; assists with real estate transactions and corporate formation and dissolution; ensures that IRET maintains proper insurance coverage and addresses the handling of property insurance claims; and otherwise provides support to the General Counsel and VP & Corporate Counsel by performing the duties listed below. Will also assist with the production and filing of various reports with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), and with Board governance. Must be able to work effectively under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Coordinate approval and payment of legal and other invoices. Research and analyze legal sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, treaties, constitutions, and legal codes and requirements. Assist with filings with the SEC and NYSE and provides corporate governance assistance to IRET entities. Draft or prepare legal documents, including contracts, real estate agreements, deeds, organizational and other corporate documents, due diligence documents, closing documents, lease documents, and loan documents. Form and/or dissolve entities and apply for authority to do business in other states. Assist with binding insurance coverage, facilitate notification of asset changes, process premium billings, verify asset limits, maintain asset data and monitor compliance with insurance policies, including Property & Casualty, Directorsâ€™ and Officersâ€™, Professional Liability (Errors and Omissions) Insurance, Auto Insurance, Crime Insurance, Cyber Insurance, Workersâ€™ Compensation, NFIP Flood Insurance, and any other IRET insurance policies. Reviewing new claims to determine whether they should be submitted to the insurance carrier for handling. Maintaining all documentation relating to claims. Coordinating with property management staff and accounting to coordinate claim processing. Monitoring general ledger accounts to ensure property accounting and any necessary adjustments; and Providing monthly, quarterly and/or annual reports on claims and providing budget information to property management accounting for property budget creation and monitoring; and Maintain corporate record books and organizational chart for all IRET-related entities.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have Associateâ€™s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; and 2-4 yearsâ€™ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior experience in a legal setting required. Must have above-average knowledge and ability in software programs such as SharePoint, Outlook, Excel, and Word.
