Farve & Brown Law is looking for a legal assistant with experience working with water rights or a litigation paralegal to join our Helena office. This can be either a part-time or full-time position, with salary DOE and a comprehensive benefit package for full-time hires. Ideal candidates will have at least 2 years of experience working with water rights and water law in Montana or another prior appropriation state, or at least 2 years of experience as a litigation paralegal, preferably working in multi-party litigation cases.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: calendaring; managing, reviewing and summarizing water rights consolidated into Water Court cases; drafting pleadings, discovery documents, and simple agreements; assisting with preparation of voluminous documents for production and discovery; completing water rights related DNRC forms; and occasional client meetings, both in-person and by telephone.


Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adhere to strict deadlines

Excellent time management skills

Ability to work independently with minimal instruction or supervision

Excellent written and verbal communication

We are a cloud-based, paperless law firm with locations in Helena and Bozeman. Comfort working with up-to-date computer technology is essential, experience with Apple products, the Montana Cadastral, Google Earth or other mapping software a plus

Associates degree, paralegal certificate, or 4-year degree preferred

Prior experience and knowledge of water rights does not necessarily have to be in a legal setting. Interested individuals with experience working at or with DNRC in the water resources division should apply as well. Experience working with water rights preferred, but not necessary if you possess litigation experience.
