Executive Director - Global Tax Strategy The candidate will continually review the worldwide tax position of Avon and drive the development and implementation of tax strategies worldwide to support the achievement of business goals. Provide technical and legal tax expertise for both strategic and operational excellence in the areas of tax planning, compliance and tax audits. Review the company’s worldwide tax position and initiate, develop and implement initiatives, policies and/or transactions to reduce the company’s worldwide tax liability. Provide counsel on the feasibility and effectiveness of corporate worldwide tax strategy through in-depth technical research, analysis and assessment. Develop transfer pricing policies. Monitor, maintain and review Avon’s inter-company transfer pricing arrangements and policies. Responsible for ensuring all required documentation exists and has been appropriately updated. Partner with executive and regional management to examine operations to determine, develop and implement tax saving opportunities. Provide tax perspective for proposed transactions and programs of Avon and its subsidiaries including treasury transactions (i.e., hedging and financing arrangements) to determine their impact on domestic and worldwide tax positions. Develop, recommend and implement alternatives that minimize the tax costs and risks and maximize the tax benefits resulting from the proposals. Provide tax counsel in the structures of domestic and foreign acquisitions (M&A), reorganizations, dispositions and joint ventures, as well as company structure changes. Proactively identify and manage tax risks & exposures. Determine P&L and B/S impact of Risks & Exposures. Work closely with tax partners, advisors and consultants to ensure recommended tax strategies (worldwide and regional) are aligned with Avon strategies and implemented effectively. Provide guidance to Regional Tax Directors and external advisors on projects/initiatives as it relates to potential tax implications, risks or benefits. Interact with and provide advice to other Tax department professionals and to other corporate groups at all levels regarding specific technical matters involving both foreign and domestic taxes. This includes providing guidance to the Directors of Compliance and Audit / Accounting for tax return preparation and audit defense. Conduct technical tax research to determine the most advantageous tax position available. Prepare technical memos to support such positions and review technical tax advice of outside counsel. Keep technically current and abreast of tax law and regulations and based on external environment/research, evaluate impact of proposed tax legislation on Avon and determine the most advantageous tax positions available. Prepare technical tax memos to support tax position. Prepare and file with the US Internal Revenue Service and its foreign counterparts requests for tax rulings, technical advice or similar matters. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. Advanced degree in taxation, JD, LLM preferred. CPA/Accounting background preferred. 8 - 15+ years of broad tax experience in a multinational corporation, CPA firm or law firm including 7+ years of experience in international taxation required. Experience in transfer pricing preferred. Understanding of financial accounting principles and their relationship to tax issues required. Strong interpersonal skill; the ability to communicate well and develop relations internally and externally required. Proactive, excellent project management skills required.
