ProfileCounsel The candidate will master the current federal tax and federal election law for tax exempt organizations and effectively convey the material for a non-legal audience. The candidate will be responsible for continuing their education in federal tax and federal election law. Master Texas state law on lobbying disclosure, ballot measures, and campaign finance issues impacting advocacy organizations. Become familiar with local lobbying disclosure ordinances and other local advocacy laws in Texas. Conduct workshops for nonprofit organizations and foundations on federal tax and federal election rules as well as TX state law and relevant local laws governing their ability to participate in public policy. Also be active in the publicity/outreach and logistics for workshops. Provide technical assistance to nonprofits and foundations on federal tax and federal election law as well as TX state law and relevant local law that impacts advocacy organizations. Write, in collaboration with agency staff and/or outside attorneys, relevant technical assistance guides, blog posts, factsheets, articles, op-eds, regulatory comments and occasional amicus briefs. Participate in policy advocacy as relevant opportunities arise. Collaborate with staff from other agency programs to deliver appropriate program content. Support the Development team and the Texas Director in fundraising efforts. Conduct outreach to nonprofit organizations to develop new relationships and introduce local organizations to agency’s nonprofit resources. Work with agency’s West Coast and DC staff on program activities and special events. Represent the organization at conferences of nonprofits and foundations. Law degree, TX bar membership, and 2-5 years of experience as a practicing attorney or advocate required. Experience: conducting training programs and working with coalitions; with lobbying or nonprofit advocacy programs preferred. Excellent oral and written communications skills, including the ability to write clearly and quickly (Spanish or other relevant non-English language skills a plus) required. Ability to work with a wide range of individuals and interests required. Knowledge of federal tax and election law and TX state lobbying and election laws preferred; some familiarity with other state lobbying and elections a plus. Excellent interpersonal skills required.
